The consequences of typhoon yagi left for Vietnam

When it comes to a natural disaster in 2024 in Vietnam, we can’t help but mention the Yagi storm, which was recorded as the strongest storm to hit this country in over 70 years.

In September 2024, Typhoon Yagi entered the mainlands and the seas of Northern Vietnam with maximum wind speeds of level 14 and gusts up to level 17, equal to nearly 200 km/h, leaving severe consequences in Northern Vietnam. This terrible destruction was not only reflected in the loss of property but also in family lover. This typhoon caused heavy rains and flash floods, resulting in over 318 deaths, nearly 2,000 injuries, and the destruction of hundreds of thousands of homes. Additionally, more than 2.65 million children were severely affected due to a lack of clean water and food.

The supporting from people and government of Vietnam

Firstly, there has been much relief from the people, businesses, non-governmental organizations and government in Vietnam. The Vietnamese government mobilized 948 billion VND to support the northern provinces having much damage. This amount is used for emergency relief, including food, medicine, and financial assistance to affected families. Additionally, Vingroup Corporation has  contributed 250 billion VND from their budget and employee donations. This fund was allocated to rebuild 2,000 collapsed houses, support from 150 to 300 million VND for hardship families who have lost loved ones and improve infrastructure. The Adani Group from India donated 1 million USD and expressed its desire to provide long-term support through infrastructure investment  projects in Vietnam. Social organizations including group and charitable organizations provided thousands of meals, clothing, and essential supplies to people in flood-affected areas.

Secondly, at the international level, UNICEF mobilized over 17 million USD to provide clean water, medical equipment, and emergency aid packages for children and remote families or families affected. In addition, the organization distributed tents, warm blankets, and educational supplies to ensure that children's learning is not enhanced.

Japan and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) also provide much-needed support for Vietnam. Japan contributed 2 million USD to help solve the storm's consequences and strengthen disaster prevention measures. Similarly, the ADB donated a similar amount of money to assist Vietnam in rebuilding critical infrastructure, such as roads and irrigation systems. Switzerland has also provided tents and clean water distribution systems to serve 10,000 people.

Finally, some other coordinated efforts, like relief agencies quickly establishing temporary support centers in affected areas and working with local authorities to ensure the fair and effective distribution of aid, were also effective in helping families deal with the loss of loved ones and properties. Communication systems and psychological support services were also effective in helping families deal with the loss of loved ones and properties.

After this time, we also need to be more united and prepare more carefully for natural disasters.
